I'm currently using TDS SurveyPro to run a Leica 1105 Robot which works fine no delays and operates the Power Search without a flaw, however no matter what I set the search settings at in the collector or in the instrument for RCS Search Window or Define Work Area it doesn't seem to have any affect on how the gun looks for the prism when lock is lost. Power Search is great, but is just one more button to push ...once in a while I would like to just stand there and have the gun go into a sweeping search pattern that I've defined and find me instead of the ignorant little box it does a couple times. If I walk behind a tree it almost always comes out the otherside and finds me, if a car drives in between me and the gun the gun regains lock, however if lock is lost and I've moved a short distance left or right the gun will never find me without intervention via going back to area were lock was lost, joy sticking or Power Search. Seems like the gun is perfectly capable of re-locking onto a prism if I could control the search pattern. Anyone have any input?

The search function has two applications

The intelligence to continue moving forward on losing a mobile lock when no return signal

The intelligence to look in a prescribed area either side of the pointed telescope. Personally I increase the vertical range and narrow the horizontal range to save time.

Regaining lock after losing lock depends on your position in relation to instrument and adjacent features.

Ie in predominantly open field then either manually point with remote buttons then search or rapid find Power Search

In areas where obstruction sometimes quicker to push last point and then regain lock by moving back to point. If distance to last shot inefficient to return and you know you are going to lose lock because of obstruction, then stop prior and record a NS shot to save the long last shot walk back. Then try if possible after regaining lock from nearer position walk in front of obstruction, repeat if necessary .

Some times in pre planning before measuring swing telescope around and jot down bearing and horizontal on either side of a major obstruction so then can remotely quickly guide telescope.

Once again, not to dis' Leica because Leica was very good to me, our Trimble robots have a joystick option that allows you to turn the instrument hoizontally an vertically in the rare instance that it loses you.

Roadhand you can do that with 1100 series.

Its been awhile since I had to fool with those setting, but I will blow the dust off the manuals and see if I can send a little help your way.

I also have the 1105 and it has been about 5 years since I had to re-set something.

Roadie,

Radu is right, this gun has a joystick function and you can see the "line lights" from a long way off.

When Leica made this gun, they were way ahead of the times.

I've been robot-ing for ten years now with mainly Topcon and some Trimble. Started with Topocon APL-1A that tracked and regained lock no other robot I've used, only problem it's built like a tank, however Topcon lost me after the 800 series pretty sure the stress took a few years of my life. I dabbled with Trimble S6 that seemed like a topo and stakeout machine, but when I went solo a couple years ago I decided to go with the 1100 Leica due to it's small size and all around performance. It hasn't let me down the accuracy is unlike any robot I've used it tracks fine and if lock is lost and I intervene using Joystick, Power Search or manual search it finds me quickly. I'm just not having much luck controlling the automatic search area the gun uses. I don't know if it the Survey Pro software or setting on the gun, but I can't change the silly little search box the gun uses when lock is lost.

After almost a year I finally figured it out this morning. On the instrument under (PROG) I activated the RCS (RCS+) and now when the instrument loses lock it goes into the search pattern I've specified under the setting in Survey Pro. I never activated the (RCS+) because I thought that was only used with the Leica RCS controller. I still activate GeoCOM to go into remote control mode, but as long as RCS is activated it reacts to the settings in the DC. I played with it at the office and even at short distances the gun quickly and automatically regains lock. This is going to make life a lot easier. I love power search, but not every time I lose lock.
