This Tennessee native has a Minnesota city named for him.?ÿ I had no idea of the source of the name for that city.?ÿ The linked story of his life has quite a twist.?ÿ He and his son were on opposite sides during the Civil War.

BTW, my curiousity was piqued earlier today while listening to a PBS station out of Springfield, Missouri.  A lady was discussing the creation of what is now US Highway 65.  One end of the route is in Louisiana and the other end is at Albert Lea, MN.  Her hometown of Fairgrove, MO had been base camp for workers on the initial construction crews working between Springfield and Buffalo, MO.  She told of a fellow who went out far ahead, on foot, scouting for the best route to follow for ease of construction in that area.  No drones and GPS in those days.
