Went to visit my uncle up in Montana a few weeks back for my cousins's 50th birthday party. He has a nice little ranch up there. Finally got to connect with that side of the family after a long hiatus. So it was great. We even had a real barn dance. But the story I wanted to tell is this:
They own a number of acres up there and my uncle actually subdivided it and made some cash to work the rest of the ranch. Did a great job and he even had it properly surveyed and was proud to show me the markers. Homes are built up and it all looks great. So after that he and his wife decided to open a doll shop along side of the road. He graded it, poured the foundation, put up the walls, had plumbers and electricians come in and set it up. Neighbor was a drywall guy and offered to finish it for him, (uncle is nearing 80 at this point). As they were getting ready to seal up the walls, a city official comes by and says that everything has to be inspected! Uncle just walked up to him and stared him in the the eye and said "He better hurry cause I'm closing the walls up today!". Guy said he couldn't do that without proper authorization and permits. All he said was, "It's on my land". They got an inspector out there within the hour! Everything was done to code. Permitted.
I don't know how much is story and how much is true, but I loved it.
