I stand corrected, in the long form instructions it states something about the method used to obtain the lat/long.

The instructions do not specify the method used to supply the lat/long only that you describe how or where you got them in the comments section. Maybe they just want some coords so they can look the structure up on Google Earth 😉
Something tells me FEMA doesn't have a problem utilizing the GE data

The last one I did I used google earth. I made a comment that the datum used to determine Lat & Long in item A5, is based on WGS84, obtained from google earth. Works for me.

so its better to stand there in the front center of the house with a handheld unit than to pick off the centroid of the house on GE? hmmmm, not sure about that.

If my office help gets the lat/long off of GE, do I have to check that box?

Does anyone even look or care about that info? I don't know.

Carl at your peril.

Google have now fixed the visual mis match one near my beach house that I used to show people .....100s of metres difference .

You must remember that google earth was put together with sweat labor following a process and not knowing the geography . Have a look how far road overlays are off visual .

It is good for local preliminary design And getting other viewers to look at same referenced spot.
