Any other Iowa RTN users (or other state RTN users) experience problems with the system being very slow to fix or wont fix at all? I am using a Verizon MIFI for my data link, Trimble R8 and TSC2 running Survey controller 12.44. I have experienced the same problems using Leica 1200 recievers with the clip on cell modem also. Some days it will fix within about a minute and sometimes we could sit for 15 or 20 minutes without fixing. Also when it is fixed, it seems to just lose its signal sometimes. Sometimes it seems to help to turn the Glonass sats off, other times it makes no difference. I am not sure if it is a data link problem, DOT server bandwidth problem, or what else it could be. If I set my base up locally, I fix in the same spot in about 30 seconds, but then I have to set up my base, thus elimiating the convenience of the RTN. I am not trying to get a fix under canopy or anywhere else that one shouldn't use gps, I am usually in a wide open spot where there really is no reason that it shouldn't fix.
I have made sure all my settings are as specified to get the corrections, and I do recieve them, just seems to be kinda unrelieable. This has happened to me all over the state including Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, not just out in the boonies.
Anyone else out there in the same boat as me?
Doogle, What time of day are you out there?
There has been a lower number of SV availability lately in the afternoons. Doesn't last long, but it's lasts long enough to slow down an RTK User.
Have you generated any sort of Mission Planning(SV Availability)for your normal working hours. I know we all get spoiled, take for granted there's always enough GNSS SV's up there to get the RTK Job done.
Might be worth a look-see...

There are at least 6 at all times of the day, with glonass turned off. most of the time there are 8-10 GPS and 6-8 Glonass available. Like I said, with my base set up I have no trouble fixing at all, this is a problem with the RTN network here in Iowa.
It is not for lack of Sats.
Honestly, it looks like the Iowa RTN has a base station in just about every county. This is a lot of towers. I am surprised it would even take you 1 minute to get a fixed position using a network solution. I would thus suspect your cellular modem first. Hook a laptop to your mifi and test your connection with this:

What type of problems does it identify? Do your mifi and Leica clip on modem use the same cellular provider?
thanks Joe, i will give it a try. yes both the MIFI unit and the Lieca clip unit use verizon for the network. They have the best statewide coverage according to their map.
