great on the highway but I'm not on the highway.
mainly water bottles keep falling out, field book falls out (always into the mud-Murphy). High stepping over logs and up steep hills pushes stuff out of open pockets. Pockets full of forest litter, etc etc. Hate all the reflective tape, don't need it.
Forester cruiser vests look even less useful.
I'm looking at tactical vests, covered pockets are good, maybe water bottles will fit in magazine pockets. I can conceal a squirt gun for disciplining crew members. They come in khaki or black (not doing that) which isn't terribly visible to the I-man.

The back pocket on that isn't big enough for my taste.?ÿ I still prefer a Filson.
Could be worse, you could have to have them custom made like I do ...?ÿ Big and well fed, what can I say?
I've had a Party Chief for about a year now, it's a very nice vest. Comfortable, roomy, very well made. Pockets are deep and most have flaps to keep things from falling out. Price is not outrageous.
Can't agree more! Matthew Stansbury makes a great vest. I've worn a Party Chief Vest for 6 years.
The guy at safety apparel, would probably make you one, to go over your tummy.
Might hafta pay extra.

I use this one, but mine has buttons for the front and zipper closure on the back pocket. They are very long lasting compared to others I have used, a little sparse in the pocket department but that is okay by me, and my back and neck.
I've been wearing Seco Dual Safety Utility vest for years know and decided to give the Party Chief a try this time.?ÿ I really like the way the PC fits (although a tall size would be nice).?ÿ After wearing it for a couple of months, I've found several things that the Seco vest does better.?ÿ First is the lack of a padded neck, the PC tends to rub on my neck.?ÿ I usually wear collared shirts & just keep it up like the Fonz.?ÿ Second is the upper left pocket on the PC could be a little longer.?ÿ I can not close it if I have a scale or scribe in it and then if you bend over everything falls out.?ÿ Finally, the radio clip strap seems a little flimsy on the PC.?ÿ I really like the second zippered inside pocket on the Seco.?ÿ Other than those, I really like the PC's construction and fit over the Seco.

@nate-the-surveyor Nate, that's not the right direction, LOL I have to turn my shoulders to go through doorways, well, and there is some stored energy as well
I've been using the SECO vest for many years now.?ÿ Overall it is pretty good, but could be improved.?ÿ The heavy duty clip for the walkie talkie is great.?ÿ I love the pencil/marker slots in the left chest area.?ÿ ?ÿ I like the lower left pocket with the grommet holes for the flagging tape. The stiching on the lower right pocket, where I tend to put other small things, is ripping, and I think even when new, there was space at the corners, so things fall out, which I don't like.?ÿ I'd like a place to securely put my iphone, and not be too tight, or worry that it is gonna fall out.?ÿ I don't need the reflective tape, but I like the orange or yellow hi-vis colors.?ÿ The heavy strap on the inside of the pockets is not useful to me, and I find it interferes with stowing data collector/map, etc.?ÿ I imagine every surveyor is different in terms of how they like to have their vest set up.?ÿ Maybe I'll try the Party Chief and see if I like it better.?ÿ Maybe a custom vest is the way to go...
I wear 5.11 tactical pants so I have pockets for my phone, wallet, keys.?ÿ Phones go in the right side pocket, wallet goes in the left side pocket, keys in a front pocket, work truck keys hang from a caribiner that hangs from the strap they have over the right rear pocket.
Only things permanently in the vest go in the vest.?ÿ Other crew members put their wallet, keys, phones in the vest then they get forgotten, lost, fall out, etc etc etc.?ÿ Don't have that problem with my tactical pants.
This.
I use the Viking survey vests.?ÿ They're not particularly great (ie. I usually have to buy another $40 one off of Amazon every 3 to 4 years), but only my "survey stuff" goes in it (ie. calculator, plans, nails, grinder discs, tape, flagging, sharpie, pens/pencil, water, scale, etc.).
?ÿ
I use pants similar to these (only my knees have a velcro pocket).?ÿ They have removable padded knees so it's much easier on my body when I'm kneeling down.?ÿ Huge pockets on the front to store my cell, keys, knife, etc.
I wear these everyday.?ÿ I have pairs for the field in blue (Fire Dept pseudo uniform really smooths the way, people like Fire Fighters), khaki and green for off-duty and weekends.
$50 but worth it, they are extremely durable.
