Well I guess that HP calculators aren't up to their old standards for construction - yes I know "what else is new".

My HP 35s, about two year old now has a broke + key, it works but doesn't rebound or have any tactile feedback. I don't use the calculator as much as in the old days with the HP 41 which worked forever. I guess it will be cheaper to replace it than repair it, actually I have been looking at the HP 50 so maybe I'll move up. I really liked the programing capability of the HP 35, easy to use without learning a new language.

FWIW In the spirit of the holiday season, I have a brand new HP50g, only played around with once or twice that I will send to the first person that donates $75.00 to the Beerfund. Wendell and Angel provide a great service here and that is the least that I can do.

Wendell and Angel can let me know where to ship it.

My HP 35 Still e Works After 40 Years

But it has no programming.

My HP35s is 2 years old and I have yet to see the need to program anything.

The programing was learning how to use the stack so minimum re-entry's were needed. Still have the HP book of cogo routines but let my 35 get away from me, have regretted it since. It was working fine then, think I went through about 4 battery packs the years I was using it. Had a case made out of skirting leather, carried it on my belt, much lighter than trig tables.

I use a wonderful app for the Iphone.

It is called i41cx and made by AL Software.

It is programmable and modules can be bought for different usages just like the
old days.

I think I paid $7 for the app.

Well worth it.

Have Not Used Batteries In HP35 In 20 Years

I went through a bunch of battery packs and a second charger. When It got hard to find battery packs I took one apart and rigged it to take 3 regular AAs. Now it has no battery pack just the charger plugged into a power strip.

I had my backpack stolen with my old HP48SX in it. They only made it for a couple of years and upgraded to the 48GX. I looked on line to replace it with a GX or SX and ended up getting the SX again. The one I got was made in the USA, and solid construction and less than half the price of any gx's. Everyone wants an old GX and there isn't a market for the SX from what I can tell. My "used" calculator is like new. I don't know if the previous owner used it at all.

The GX has a kind of bug that makes it hard to turn on. You have to kind of hold or press the upper-right corner while pushing the on/off switch on a lot of them. The SX has a lot less memory, but it is one powerful calculator if you aren't using it for data collection or have a need for tons of memory. It has no "bugs" from what I can tell, and is very solid.

Also, you can get a 41gx app for your android. It is a great calculator as well; and free.

Anyway, good luck. I agree with the sentiment about the flimsy construction of new calculators. I wish they could have expanded and grown on the old 41. it could be the same easy programmability, with higher-precision digits, quality construction and ten times the speed and capacity.

My HP 35 Still e Works After 40 Years

Used HP41 with a simple survey module that would not store the info in the early 80's for all calculations.

After a few years of that and in the middle of a 1500 acre subdivision into 1ac, 5ac, and 10ac lots it dawned upon me to let my boss know we needed an upgrade or I was heading down the road.

There were suprom modules and others that would store the coords by number.

That boss was too tight for his own good. He came in with an Apple II computer that he picked up used from government office surplus. That is when I discovered Carlson Surveyor I.

I downloaded the HP41 app to my Droid X plus the Survey module. After 25+ yrs I do not remember the proper XEQ commands to make it load and function.

I just upgraded to the 41cx+ on the iphone and loaded the survey rom, hadn'tseen it in about 18 years, but it was just like riding a bike when I got it back in my hand.:-)

xeq alpha TRAV alpha >>>>>>>>>dsp brg? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>dsp L/D?>>>>>>>>>>etc.

Those were much simpler times.

I was like a kid again.
