I use a mini-prism (0mm offset). For ALTA surveys you are supposed to have redundant data on the building shots, so I shoot the building corner from two setups and test the positional accuracy. I have a prismless gun, but I have come up with mixed results with that and prefer the mini-prism.

If the topo you are doing is for future expansion then I would shoot each corner from two setups (where practical) and pull a tape too. Every contractor I have ever met says, "the tape doesn't lie" so hold the tape because that is how they will try to prove you wrong.

If I want a good elevation shot, I lean my prism pole against the building corner and make a mark, then I hold the mini on said mark.

I agree with the others about the angle offset if your software will allow it. I usually work with a robot, so I don't always have someone looking through the gun to turn the angle.
