For all those who have changed the batteries themselves in the hipers, how did you proceed?

Do you access the batteries from the front or back of the unit?
any tricks or concerns?

Thanks for any input.

Got it done, here is what I did.

1)Turn off units and put in deep sleep.

2) Remove antennae

3) Take out four hex screws from rear of unit, remove rear panel, note: nothing is connected to this panel.

4) Take out four hex screws from front (minter) of unit, carefully pull front panel with electronics attached forward approx ¾ inch. (This will expose connection point of the battery to panel.) Disconnect the battery from panel.

5) Push and slide each battery individually out the back of the unit. (There may be cushioning material attached to the battery, salvage what you can and put this on the new batteries in the same position.)

6) After attaching the cushioning material to the new battery, find and cut a piece of mylar so that it is just the width of the cushioning material and about a foot long. Use this like a “shoehorn” so than when you slide the battery into the case, the cushioning material will not stick to the inside of the case.

7) Place the above mylar on the cushioning material and insert the new battery with the wire connections to the inside and front of the unit. Slide the battery all the way into the case so that the wire protrudes to the case.

8) Pull on the mylar while holding the battery firm and remove the mylar so that the cushion is now in contact with the case and is holding the battery firmly to the case.

9) Turn the exposed connector wire from the battery to orient it to the connection point on the minter. Connect the wire, and make sure that it is in a position so that it will not be pinched when you close the front panel.

10) Slowly push on the front of the batteries so that their rear protrudes beyond the rear of the case the same amount as it was when you first opened the case, take note.

11) Carefully push the Minter unit back into the case and align the rubber gasket. Double check the wiring for potential pinches and replace and tighten the four hex bolts.

12) Check the back of the batteries, and then align the rear panel and rubber gasket. Double check wiring for potential pinches and replace and tighten the four hex bolts.

Hint: it is better to have longer wires than short, compare your replacements with OEM for length.

Done. It takes about a half hour for both units.
