I have two TSC2's that I bought in 2006. Mostly just used one, with a radio, for an S6. Survey Controller. When that one died I had my dealer swap the radio over to the other one, which was in very good shape. But, after that the screen never seemed to work right, until it got so bad that it was unusable. The screen looked fine, no scratches or cracks, but a good part of it would not work at all. Dealer said they probably could not fix it, or it would be a lot of money, etc.?ÿ?ÿ

So I bought a TSC3 with radio in August. It was recently (early December) left on the back bumper of the truck, and was lost. I figured it was somewhere along my driveway (about 900 feet), and we would find it when we got back (we were about 90 minutes away from the office). Fortunately I had the Yuma with me, so we were able to work. About 15 minutes after we discovered the TSC3 was missing, a guy called and said he found the "UPS computer" in a McDonalds parking lot about 6 miles from my office, right before the on ramp to the interstate. It had been run over. Fortunately I put tags on all of my equipment. Got it back, it worked for one day and then died. Got it fixed.?ÿ

So I figured it would be good to have another backup. Also, Access (on the TSC3 and the Yuma) will not work with 5700's or 4700's (I have two of each). Survey Controller (on the TSC2) will work with the older receivers (but not with my R10's).?ÿ

So I found a company in Minnesota that offers the screen and the digitizer behind the screen for sale for DIY, or they will do the repair. Screen was fine, just needed a new digitizer. $95, and sent back the same week.

Very happy so far with the repair.?ÿ

That is good to know, I currently have two that need fixin. One is a keyboard and the other is a screen.

One of our TSC2's has the radio on the back but I have been told by several people that the radio would not talk to a 5603. Problem is, nobody can tell me why. Can you shed some light on that?

Probably have to use an external radio. I think you can use long range BT at both ends if you can't find a radio. Actually, I think I have an external radio for a 5603. Let me know if you are interested and I will see exactly what it is. But I am pretty sure that others here on the board have made Parani long range BT work with some kinds of instruments.?ÿ

We have the external radio. I was just trying to figure out why the radio in the TSC2 would not work. Different band? Different technology? Since yours works with the S6 then I am assuming the 5603 may be older technology?

I'm just curious.

The digitizer went bad in my backup TSC3 this past summer. I took it into the dealer and they quoted me around $1,200 to repair, so I order a new digitizer from Kargo for $14.99 and had the local cell phone 911 store install it for around $25. Its been rock solid for 6 months now and seems more responsive than any new TSC3 I have ever used.
