I am having trouble trying to run GE on XP Pro, when I try to run I get a notice that says that GE encountered a problem. I have IE 8 and directx 9 installed. Can someone suggest what I need to do to get GE running. This is a new install on this computer.
Thanks

Be sure and download and install all the updates to XP Pro and run SuperantiSypware and setting up you antivirus before adding any programs.

Try an uninstall of GE and download again as something could have happened with the 1st download.

Google Earth prefers, and defaults to, OpenGL rather than DirectX

There is/was an optional update for OpenGL on XP which you will need - maybe you dont have this installed...

Jim
I tried OpenGl but I got a message that my graphics card does not support it. I bought an IBM off lease as an XP backup machine so that I could run some of my older programs on.

With the version of Google Earth that I have installed here, it creates two options in the start menu - "Google Earth in OpenGl" and "Google Earth with DirectX" - did you get both of them? Does the DirectX work? (The icon on the desktop is equivalent to the OpenGL option).

However Google Earth gives video cards quite a workout - if your card wont do OpenGL (which I find unusual) I suspect it just wont have enough power in either mode 🙁

Jim,

That seem to be the case. I tried both ways on two computers with no luck. I need to check to see what kind of cards and try to find an update or replace them.
Thanks
