Howdy,

I noticed that the subject project has begun in earnest. A set of observations using different techniques will be observed to validate the gravimetric geoid product. Work is along a line from Rockport, TX to Austin, TX.

Details and a status report are available at the following site: Geoid slope validation project page.

Or ...

http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/GEOID/GSVS11/

Some additional information on the technology to be used is available here: See presentation on topic.

Enjoy,

DMM

Interesting project, do you know if any private companies are involved in the data collection.

Howdy,

I do not know of any private company involvement in data collection. I expect the NGS state advisors would know. I became aware of the project during the NGS solicitation for involvement by Universities involved in geoid/gravity/geodesy research. I was especially interested in the DIADEM camera system. We had a presentation by Dr Jakob Flury a few years ago wherein he described it's use. Interesting adaptation of an old concept to new technology.

NGS was looking for student labor. As the project is taking place during the hottest time of year I did not push the issue too hard.

Hope this is responsive.

Cheers,

DMM

That's a pretty big undertaking. Sounds interesting.
