The topic of deer hunting reminds me of the times I've come across a deer that has been entangled in a wire fence. You see the hides and bones of what is left hanging in a fence along the highway after the buzzards have eaten, but I have in mind the deer that are still alive, just with a back leg (typically) snared in a wire fence. In my career to date, I've seen three such deer. Two were just hanging in the fence with a rear leg entangled. I managed to free them both. The other was stuck in the space between two fences, a normal stock fence and an 8 ft. game fence that had been built about three feet behind it. That deer had jumped the lower fence only to find himself caught between the two. As my truck approached, he ran in a panic along the narrowing alley between the fences, his antlers catching on the wire fabric of the taller fence and jerking his head around to slow him up briefly.

About all I could do there was to let the rancher know what had happened so he could release the deer. He was the guy who had decided to leave the old stock fence in place after he had the high fence built.
