Client has an insurance agent who needs an EC for flood insurance. I provided it today. Client's response was classic:
You are simply being asked for the elevation. Something you should have been able to do with the plans, I should think. Please do not over think or over complicate this.
My response was 'That would be the Federal Government at work. Tell me how under-complicated your industry (banking) would be without the Federal Government.'
PS The plans he referred to were site plans that were approved under a CLOMR-F, the client did not believe he needed the LOMR-F follow up (he got his utilities and finished basement, why would he need another filing?) and the client made dozens of changes throughout construction, so the Site Plans did not really reflect the as-built site. One of those changes may bite him as he created a walkout... oops.
Soooo...glad I'm not the only one that faces these situations. :-@ :pinch:
I think if a client ever talked to me like that it would be our last conversation.
I have had worse.
Over the years I have invoiced this client close to six figures for his trophy compound. Adequate compensation tends to increase my ability to shrug off a couple of harsh e-mails.
Just to note, I have completed multiple site plans of the subject property. He kept changing his mind. I have been to conservation over 12 times for 4 permits, he made field adjustments that required after-the-fact filings, we filed the CLOMR-F, but not the LOMR-F. Board of Health variance, Zoning Board of Appeals representation and a slight feud with a neighbor who keeps putting irrigation over the common boundary and cleared out a coastal bank on my client's property. He pays his invoices, so I can dedicate the time. Again, I have had worse. Those are generally the arrogant, rich folks who do not pay their invoices. Those are the ones I can drop or just put low on the list until compensation comes through.
Update
He talked with his agent. Then he called, admitted he was wrong and apologized. I explained it was no big deal because plenty of people are stressed with the new maps... All is well again...
Update
that's good!!! and yes, I suppose a regular client might get a pass for some annoying comments, much like a good friend that occasionally pisses you off.
