Shopping for a new instrument and data collector and have been informed that the Surveyor 2 has been discontinued. I have been extremely satisfied with the one I have now.?ÿ

Yep. I saw this coming as Carlson was really pushing the tablets. The Surveyor 2 is/was a workhorse and very durable apparently. I fell forward onto some concrete about 5 years ago. I had a Surveyor 2 in one hand and donƒ??t remember what was in the other. My natural reaction was to put my hands out to break my fall. The Surveyor 2 broke my fall, hitting the concrete screen down. A couple of scratches on the casing was all the damage it incurred. Its still running strong.?ÿ

I actually prefer the Surveyor+

That's the one that was super rugged.?ÿ They even had that video of them throwing it off of a roof, driving over it with a truck, pounding stakes with it, and submerging it in a fish tank.?ÿ Indestructible.?ÿ?ÿ And it had a much better screen than the 2.?ÿ But I don't think it had the Bluetooth range.

@jph?ÿ

Agreed. A Parani solved that issue.

@bushaxe?ÿ

Wow. We didn't have that experience at all. Our surveyor 2 had to go back for repair twice under warranty. Never dropped. It still apparently has issues with the touchscreen clicking stuff by itself and the Allegro 2 which is basically the same also has that issue. It also can't load the number of points in the subdivisions I work in. Yeah the office can cut down on the points in the upload but then I always end up with important points missing. I just can't believe they could charge the price they were for technology from more than 10 years ago. I won't miss these things at all.?ÿ

It was Juniper's decision to discontinue the data collector.?ÿ I know Jim Carlson was demoing a new unit, not sure if it was another tablet or not.?ÿ I see a trend towards the tablets and andriod powered is cropping up.

I would assume Junipers reasoning to discontinue the collector was due to Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 becoming end of life in January of 2020, as they still offer the Android version in the Allegro 3. A full version of Windows 10/11 or Android is becoming the new norm.
