I've run this for just a month now on a Mini 2 and so far it's not bad, but I've found a few bugs I'm not caring for and was wondering if anyone else was seeing this. First off when using the robotic total station if I tell the TS to turn to a point in the instrument menu, it will turn, but then the scope points straight down & the instrument freezes and the data collector freezes. Now, in the stakeout menu, it turns to all the foresights with no trouble.
When doing RTK work, the DC also locks up when I want to do an autonomous shot. I asked this same question on the Carlson forum and the answer was to update to the 2016 software. I bought the thing in January, so I'd like to think I have the latest software. Any ideas?
Not bashing Carlson, they have some very slick features!
I haven't used Carlson but some of what you describe can happen using Trimble software. If you are running elevations and you stake a point that has a 0.000 elevation or -99999, it'll turn to the point, X, Y, AND Z. I've never had Trimble lock up like you describe, however.
It may be the point having a zero elevation that causes the first issue. I am not sure why it freezes up. I have not experienced the other issue with RTK. I use a Carlson Surveyor+ though and not the mini. Maybe that's your problem.
In Survce, Equip, Load robot, Search, check turn to point in stakeout, uncheck turn to vert. point in stakeout
Whoever told you to upgrade to 2016 was referring to Survey. You are working with SurvCE. Go to >Equip>About SurvCE and make sure you've got version 4.07. If not, go to survce.com and get that update.
For the autonomous shot lockup, one thing to check would be your tolerance setting in the Configuration menu. You'd normally have that set to maybe .05' for RTK but autonomous will be way bigger than that, maybe more like 4-5'.
My focus does the same if elevations are turned on and the point elevation is 0. Gotta turn to the point and then turn the zenith angle to 90 so it's pointing straight forward
Locking up? Yikes.
Ok, checked it out today, and no IT DOES NOT lock up when the scope points down, it just "hangs" then allows me to keep working. I guess maybe I was just impatient when I was using it the other day. Funny, it doesn't do it when turning to points in the stake out screen, just the "turn to ang" in the robotic setup screen. The turn to vertical is not checked, nor has it ever been checked since I've been using this DC. I did find out I don't have the latest version, so I'll update today. I'm hoping I can figure it out quickly, starting a big project Monday where I'm going to need that autonomous feature!
