Has anyone successfully connected to the Leica network using a Carlson Surveyor Plus data collector with a GUU24 Leica (Seimens MC75) modem with GX1230.
My airlink modem was on it's last leg and getting very contrary in the hot afternoon sun so I got a new Leica recommended Leica Modem with an ATT sim card and data plan. I can connect to the Leica network using the Leica paddle but I can't find how to set this up in the Carlson DC. I had this problem when I first connected with the airlink but I can't remember where I when to get the data that must be keypunched into the DC. Leica is not a lot of help since they don't like you using Carlson anyway.

We were never able to get the GFU24 to work with Carlson. We could always connect with the the paddle too, but not Carlson. I spent hours on this issue and finally gave up and ordered airlink modems for all our rovers.
That was early 2000's, fast forward to now and we are using all VIVA gps and collectors so its an all Leica hardware and software and have no problems at all.
I have 2 used airlink modems, and one almost brand new airlink modem if you are interested.
It cannot be done with the Carlson CE. It is just not going to happen and you will receive no support from Leica on this matter. In conversations I've had with (he who shall not be named) the manufacturer's preference is to support proprietary hardware and software only.
Looks like you may need to go all Leica...

Sorry to hear that since I have a brand new GFU24 and ATT SIM Card. I think I will give Carlson a try and see if they can give me the dial string needed to access leicanet. SurvCE lists a Seimans75 interface and then ask for a pin and puk number so maybe they have worked it out by now.
On the newest Carlson DC/GPS Unit it has a built in slot for a SIM card to connect to the network.
I may need to buy those airlinks from you, I know Leica knocks them but I have had a lot of success. The one I am replacing is about 7 or 8 years old and I have just needed to reflash the firmware every year or so to keep it working.
Leica has been having some problems with its Texas Network. At first they were blaming the Airlink Modems, then the Verizon connection, and I'm not sure what will be next maybe the recent server update cured it.
They definitely want you to go 100% Leica I just never liked how their software worked and I didn't like to be told I needed to learn their way. I am real happy with my Leica GPS, Topcon Robot, and Carlson DC and for the past five years I have been able to hook up to the RTK net set a couple of control points, turn of the GPS connect the DC to the robot set up on the control points and start surveying.
Have not tried the Carlson Surveyor + with the leica GFU housing, but personally I beleive it would be cheaper to to send the leica radio back and get a "MiFi" personal wireless hotspot for your network corrections sense the Surveyor + has built in Wifi. Unless you still use the leica RX1210T padel that came with your 1230 on occasion.
I renewed by business phones with ATT for 1 year and they gave me a mifi and data plan and that is where I got the SIM card for the GFU24. I'm not sure how I would get the Surveyor Plus to connect to the Leicanet exept with the SurvCE software but I will give it a try. I don't think the mifi battery is going to last very long so it may not be good for a day in day out job. On the plus side you could also connect your ipad or laptop if needed.
Not sure about the ATT card but I have purchased batteries off of ebay for my verizon that almost doubled the life span of the mifi.
also give carlson a call if you have trouble getting on the network going this route... This is the way they recommend connecting on their surveyor + GPS rover system. The tech support # is 606-564-5028
We got with the local Leica Rep and the Carlson expert in Boston and in short order we had the Surveyor Plus getting corrections with the GFU24, everyone was a great help. The only drawback is that if we want to change our network setting we would have to do it with the Leica paddle and then connect with the Carlson. Hopefully that will not come up very often.
Robert - Are you able to use the MAX correction with Carlson? How about IMAX and NEAR?
We can only use one of them without going to the paddle and switching. The way it was explained to me is that the internal Lieca memory remembers the last net login settings and port number and when you connect to modem in Carlson it just triggers and redoes the last login session. In Leica the only difference in the login between Max imax and nearest is the port number. In theory you should only need Max since the net should be able to tell where the nearest base is. I think Imax may be a shorter data string that takes less bandwidth so it will work better in areas of weak cell coverage but I'm not too sure about that. With the new network I do miss being able to log directly into my own base but that is a price you pay to be able to use the entire network. We have actually logged in with the NTRiP with the new modem instead of the IP login we used wirh Airlink, I am curious to see if this improves our connect time and stability on the network. We were losing lock alot with our old airlink setup.
