I will be traveling to New Orleans the weekend of 12/9 & 10 to repeat a modern version of the famous Bedford Level Experiment on the 7 miles of smooth calm water called Little Tensas Bayou near Baton Rouge, LA. I could use some hands if anyone in the area wants to come out to help me.
I hadn't heard of it.?ÿ Interesting.?ÿ?ÿ

Still after the flat-earthers, I see.?ÿ I'm afraid nobody with a prejudice will accept anyone else's procedure and results. The treatment of refraction leaves too many outs. ?ÿ Care to give your procedure?
?ÿ
No, I've left the flatearthers behind. There's nothing you can say to help them. After all, it took zero evidence to convince them the earth is flat, so, there isn't any evidence they will ever bother to look at in opposition to their belief system. The whole flat earth thing peaked my interest to learn more about geodesy than I thought about before ever hearing about the flat earth, so, I have them to thank for that. Now I am an earth curvature tourist 😉
I plan to set lanterns the same dimension above the water at one mile spacing on the columns under Rte 10 across Little Tensas Bayou. I want to establish a baseline between 2 points set on either end on the boat ramps. I'll use triangulation to position the lanterns. A photographer that posts on YouTube known as Soundly will also record video and images through my telescope set horizontal, ie, zenith angle at 90 viewing the line of lanterns. As for refraction, yes, the FErs love to bring it up, but never have the answer for how much?
Interesting. I am familiar with the area from my past surveying experience working in the Basin.
Unfortunately, I am booked out of town this weekend and I don't like to spend two weekends out of the homestead.
Can you post some kind of schedule?
Boy, I'd hate to be in a boat full of lanterns, in the dark, with a multi-mile string of lanterns on highway columns behind me, when the authorities became curious.
Other than that hiccup, sounds fun...
Scott, my local contact has cleared it. We are good.
Yep, that is the spot Alvin Tostik.
Good luck.
This time of the year there are weather issues in the Basin.
Fog could be a problem both day and night and a cold front passing through can be a game changer.
