I have recently picked up an Mini2 running Carlson and I saw a post from Junipers knowledge base about the capabilities of the Bluetooth. It is rated at 100m but users have reported much longer distances using it. Some were even reporting distances in excess of 1000 feet. I was curious if anyone out there is using one of these as a controller on a robotic station (Leica/Geomax) and if is working out satisfactorily ?

Bob,
The Mini2 has a Class I internal Bluetooth modem, and when communicating with another Class I device (Leica RH16/Geomax ZRT81/82 [long-range Bluetooth handle]) 1000 feet is easily attainable (we can routinely get up to 1400') and communications are stable. Alternatively, the Mini2 can communicate with a robot's onboard Bluetooth (Class II) and reach out to a max of about 450 feet, which could save you the cost of a specialty radio handle.
Thanks for the info...
So i guess the range limit is dependent on the weakest Bluetooth device on either end of the transmission, notwithstanding other factors such as buildings, hills etc.
