I'm investigating whether it would be a replacement for my failing Allegro CX, the reviews are good, mostly from late 2014 though when it came out. No magazine review can cover sustained day to day use so I'd interested to hear from any long term users. They don't appear to come up on the used market, the only one I can find on ebay is brand new. An alternative is Juniper's Archer 2, more compact but I think it uses a tethered stylus and wristband which would be one more thing to take care of and avoid snagging.

I've tried SurvPC on a rugged tablet pc, it's ok but a bit bulky on the pole and not handy working through bushes, starts to feel heavy too after a full day.

AllegroCE with SurvCE
this is a loaded version with TS, GPS, Roads & Robotics

There are links below this listing to a variety of other options

Been slowly learning AllegroCX with SurveCE with TS and it is more complicated than my HP48GX with SMI v7.
Bluetooth and other connection capabilities are great and so far basic functions not nearly as fast as the HP.

Thanks AH, that's a much older model even than the CX. The Allegro 2, and Archer 2, are the latest Juniper Systems models:

I'd guess there aren't many used Allegro2s because no one wants to get rid of them! We sell many Surveyor2 and Mini2 (Carlson branded Allegro2/Archer2) data collectors and our customer response has been very positive. Internally the Allegro2 and Archer2 are the same collector, only the form factor differs. They've got long battery life (20+ hours), quick charging (<4hrs), daylight readable GorillaGlass capacitive touchscreen, class I Bluetooth, and an extendable 2 year manufacturer warranty; what's not to love?

Plus, the folks at Juniper are great to deal with if you need assistance. They've even created custom .cab files for us.

FWIW, if you are interested in a rugged tablet PC it might be worth considering a FZ-M1 ToughPad. Win7 Pro 64bit, 1.6GHz Intel i5 processor, 128GB SSD, and w/ the extended battery it weighs less than a Surveyor2. We don't have enough customers using them to speak to your question about daily usability but it sure is a sweet little computer.
