So this weekend was the big Irish Fest in Dallas and I had been invited by my retired (or semi-retired) friend from TXDOT. Lenard. I suppose many know him on this board.

We gathered up another friend along the way on Saturday who is also a surveyor. Danny. He is still among the working but we did not make fun of him. He lives in SE Downtown Dallas and that was quite the trip to go gather him up before making the trip to Fair Park.

Gosh they have really cleaned up parts of Dallas. I did not have to crack the 60 out of the window once on our trip.

Here is me, Lenard and Danny.

We arrived early at the Irish fest. Okay after noonish, but that is considered early for the true Irish.

Just a bit of nip in the air but I had to take a picture for my friend Randy. Hook 'Em baby.

Our day passes bought us into all the stuff around fair park. I was wanting to go into the Museum of Natural History. Sadly, though they told us that Fort Worth had the tablet this weekend so none of the exhibits in Dallas were going to come alive. Bummer.

So the Irish fest was a ball. We talked politics, of the Jerry influence on the stadiums and such. I was pretty much quiet. No dog in that hunt.

But the bands were outstanding. I love a good fiddle or a good set of pipes. We got a prime seat on the starting of the parade.

Such a good time. My friends, Lenard and Danny, saved a seat at the table for me for one really good band. They should have saved two seats, but we just shared. I found a friend in the 'beer' line who traveled back with me. Such a wonderful maker of jewelry.

Sigh.

Freezes in the morning, construction everywhere on the highways, guardrails from hadies but it was still a great, memorable and survey relate trip.

The only thing survey related was my friends and perhaps the couple of geoids in one photo.

Seems there could be a bit of undulation in those geoids Mr. Paulk. 😉 As with many geodetic phenomenon, I'm sure the amount of undulation could be measured with good observations, carefull hands on measurements, data collection, calculation and analysis.

I love the Irish tunes,
and the sound of a band of pipers - great.

With Saint Patrick's Day coming soon all the Irish pubs will turn green again,

One of the bands 'Dervish' took part in the European song contest, great performance.
