A new toy to play with

I've migrated from the 4400 RTK backpacks with wires everywhere carrying camcorder batteries, a radio, a L1L2 antenna on the pole all controlled by a yellow brick DC, from that mess to a rod pole with the R10/12 and the TDC600-no wires connecting anything.

Nite and day.

Of course, the extra satellites, faster processors are the big change, but the lightweight combination of the new receivers and a cell phone DC is an important improvement. I haven't noticed the TDC600 being slow, anything faster will be fine I guess but the 600 isn't creeping along. Its big drawback is the onscreen Keypad. If that's not to your liking then you need a bigger, heaver type of DC. A day with the TDC600 cured me of wanting that.

I would have to set up the codes in advance as my fat fingers and bad eyes could cause some head scratching for sure lol. But I might have to just switch from iPhone to android just for that light weight and having one device to keep up with.

You can use it as a phone, but I'm not going to, it's big for that purpose. Plus I want it in its field holder all the time.

Have you used a bluetooth keyboard with it in the field?

The mini ones work pretty well for me. Not very rugged though

Still seeking one I can strap to the back of my forearm like StarTrek

Can it do voice commands? That's what I really want in my next controller. Well, that and some UWB auto-lock wizardry but that's probably a few years away.

You can do voice commands on a TSC7.
I believe you 'ought' to be able to use Alexa on an Android controller - but I dont actually know of anyone that has.

I believe they can, I played with it a bit, but normally I'm taking voice notes with my Cell phone in the field. Very speedy compared to typing.

Yeah but none of the Alexa or Siri understand my southern accent lol. I would love to just speak notes but until they learn my language it’s a crap shoot.

@jimcox

About the Voice Commands on TSC7

Really?
Acces does support that - coding included?
Any links or how to's? That's the first time I hear this.

Big fan of the TDC600 here too, so I'm curious to test the new one out. Like mighty moe says I've never noticed the 600 being slow at all. I would totally use it as my business phone if I owned one; just because it's your phone doesn't mean you have to answer it while you're working.

Access per-se has no specific provision for voice control.
The technique is to use a Windows tool to mimic keyboard entry - associate various recognised phrases with keystrokes.
Using the function keys and keyboard shortcuts helps smooth the interaction with Access.

It is a very niche application...
