I have a Leitz half-minute transit that had gotten knocked over before I bought it (seemed cheap at the time).?ÿ The upright pieces were obviously bent, so I took it apart and?ÿ beat them back to straight as well as I could. Had to slightly flatten the vertical angle scale to match the vernier.?ÿ The axis was probably bent, too, and vertical movement is rather stiff.
It is certain to be less accurate as it once was, but I had a lot of fun with it doing a triangulation network where angles usually met 1 minute rms if not better, and it is still useful to view eclipses by projection.
