I tried em 30 yrs ago. We tore them up they were not tough enough.. Tire chains worked better.

I have had the good fortune of torturing a wide array of vehicles on over half the contents on earth. The most important lesson learned is that no one vehicle or solution is effective everywhere. That being said, the newer "grippers" can be helpful in a pinch. They are for getting un-struck and will disintegrate if you drive any distance with them on.
I have to drive a few hundred miles to find appreciable mud so chains (not cables) work better around here. Most of us just get an off-road capable truck with decent tires. When that fails we have very good boots..
That is what the ATV is for, off-road travel.
