...does the manufacturer of your DC software permit you to transfer the license to a new DC? Assuming, of course, the new DC supports the existing software (upgrades OK).
The reason I ask, is that this subject came up in another thread and I felt it would be good to discuss this without being specific to one SW manufacturer.
It's pretty well established that Carlson permits it at relatively small cost compared to the retail SW package.
Thanks in advance.
Well, we've only got Carlson so can't add further, but if I may expand things to a higher level, we've run AutoCAD Civil 3D since 2007, and in that time have sent quite a few PC's out to pasture, but Autodesk have always been good with allowing licence activation on new equipment, free and no questions asked. (Haven't done it in the past couple of years, so could be wrong now, and I do suspect with things all done online now the do know who's who).
I believe the theory is with Spectra SurveyPro is that the SW is licensed to the device so if the DC goes kapoot you need to purchase new SW but Carlson licenses SurvCE to the user so it can be swapped from DC to DC for free.?ÿ
Per office, we run Carlson Survey & Survey OEM on network licenses so the SW itself is constantly put on new computers, we just need to access the server for a license.
I have transferred topcon software between data collectors. They often want the old data collector in return.
Any other brand of DC software users out there that have done so? FieldGenius? XYZ Fieldworks (are they even around any more)? Others?
I received an e-mail today from a representative at MicroSurvey; he said for $200, they will transfer the FieldGenius license to another device.
Microsurvey Field Genius is definitely around. The are great with support as well. They allow moving your version into any data collector you want.
