Aloha, TL:
Will gladly do so. Will be more than happy to help you with the little that I've learned when you are ready to take the leap!

Getting off topic ... but ...

> The answer is yes. I used do it this way when I used my son in the summers . I would run the data collector from the rod with a standard topcon . All he had to do was point and aim . I would control the data collector . I called it a poor mans robot. Works great..

Very clever!

Parani SD1000 WORKS with Trimble 5603

> Which antennas are you using with your SD1000?

The only problem I have had with the Parani'a is breaking antennas, but that is understandable as I am using them in the woods. Not what they were designed for 🙂 .

I am doing a little experimenting of my own. They came with the short stub, plus I bought two of the longest 5dBi (DAT5-G01R) and one 3dBi (DAT-G01R). My idea is to keep one of the 5's on the instrument all the time, as it is safe there. Then have the three to chose from at the DC. My hope is that with the improved range of the SD1000 with 5dBi, that I can mount it in my old Topcon radio bag that mounts on the pole. Not real happy with my current set up that has the DC Parani and antenna in a dangerous location. I am also experimenting with powering the SD1000 directly from the camcorder battery in my FC-2000. According to what I have read, the SD1000 can be powered through the 9-pin.
Did more field work in July than any month in the past 4 years 🙂 so it may be awhile before I get this all done, but will post results with pictures someday.
Good Night,
Scott McLain
