I know this question has been iterated here before, but I'm curious to know how many out there have both programs on the controller and how they compare when running the "S" series instruments robotically.

Hi,
I run Survey Pro and Survey Controller on the same collector with an R8 Rover and also a S6 Robot. The Trimble based software works and interfaces flawlessly with the equipment maybe by design as Trimble owns both. But Survey Pro's capabities far exceed Survey Controller and Access's.

Thank You Mr. Watson,
That's why I ask, I'm finding too many limitations in Access.

Ralph - What do you feel Access is missing?
I used Survey Pro several years ago (non-robotic though), have been using Survey Controller exclusively for the last 5+ years, and we just picked up an S6 & TSC3 w/ Access. To be honest, I only used it for a day or two to familiarize myself with it before passing it on to another crew, so I didn't really get to dig into it. I've been happy w/ Survey Controller up to this point, and didn't really see a huge difference between Access & SC. Just curious.

Hi Alan,
The cogo features in access are bare minimum, they way I see it it's basically a non-scientific calculator.
There are many other things that I keep encountering in the field which I haven't been able to figure out intuitively. Nothing comes to mind right now and I probably should write these shortcomings down (or my perception of them) as I come across them. Perhaps it's just my familiarity with TDS that makes me feel this way.

I am new to Survey Controller but well versed with Survey Pro. First impressions of Survey Controller are that it is not as user-friendly as Survey Pro. Survey Pro has a simple Main Menu page, like folders. You go into one of the main-menu-folders and all of the routines associated with that topic are there. One example is Inverse. Survey Pro has an Inverse folder; when you go in there are 5 different types of inverse that you can do. One of these very important Inverse functions is Point-to-line (ie- chainage & offset along a line, something I use regularly. I cannot find this fundamental feature on Survey Controller. It seems that on Survey Controller you first need to go into COGO and create a point square to the line, then use the inverse function to get your chainage and offset values.
And one thing I find very frustrating about Survey Controller is the inability to pick points off the map for calculations, setout etc. In Survey Pro everything is graphical and there is no need to know point numbers, or make point lists etc
While I am only new to Survey Controller I will develop a much better understanding of it as I use it, I will endeavour to post later on Survey Pro vs Survey Controller.

Not sure about Survey Controller but they definitly made that possible in Tramble Access. When using the right arrow next to your input box you'll find a shortcut 'Select from Map'
On the other hand when you're in the map and select 2 or more points, then tap and hold the stylus on the screen you get a pop up window with relevant options.
When 2 points are selected you can even stake out the line defined by those 2 points, without that line even existing in your map.
As for your other remark about inversing from point to line. I think that's also located under the stake out line options. You can configure the various displays for the staking. Did you explore the pdf help file?
