Trimble Access Sync + TSC3 + Background Syncing

Good day,

After an almost catastrophic data loss when Trimble Office Synchronizer decided to overwrite newer job files with older once, I am in the process of getting Access Sync up and running on TSC3 data collectors. As an extra measure, I am using "TCC Explorer" to sync the files back to our local network share for daily backup and the extra bonus of being able to send files to the field by dragging them to a network folder. Trimble doesn't actually want you installing TCC Explorer on servers and sharing the information on a network, but there are ways around that.

Anyway, what would be really great is if you could just leave access sync running all the time in the background so data continuously got synced. When attempting this and trying to do actual survey work in Access there is a HUGE lag. As an example, with sync running while doing a topo it could literally take 30 seconds to open a store topo point screen. It is just completely unusable.

My question is has everyone seen this sort of performance lag when trying to run Access Sync in the background? Is the only answer to have the crew pop in and out of sync throughout the day to sync and close out of it when not in use? I'm curious about everyone else's experiences. The cell phone in my pocket can do 100 things at once and I find it extremely frustrating that the $7,000 TSC3 chokes when trying to sync and survey at the same time.

Thanks.

Kevin in Reno, NV

Constantly Syncing is never a good idea. More than likely what's happening is that every single shot you take is being written to the file, and thence syncing with the server.

Have the field crew Sync as necessary, e.g. new stake-out file, good stopping point in the work, etc.. It'll reduce headaches.

I want what SurveyNV wants.
I enjoy this on my computer but never on the TSC3.
I found Trimble AccessSync to be unwieldy requiring you to start it up, approve file updates etc;. I don't have to do this on my computer it just works. (used to use sugarsync, now use tresorit)
I am a one man operation so it just to save me, for example, getting out in the field and then finding I got distracted and didn't upload a file to the TSC3. So now I can download it on my phone (Android) from tresorit but how to get it the TSC3? Bluetooth? Well I wish I could. I have never managed to get it to work.

Personally, I think it would be a great idea if the software/hardware combo could handle it. The technology exists to have it suspend sync for the currently open job when a survey is active or control the intervals at which it syncs. To have to go in and out of Access Sync all day is quite frankly a pain in the ass. My main party chief doesn't exactly embrace changes and new technology with open arms, so as hands-off as I could make this for him is better for all involved.
