I have been a loyal Terramodel user since it was Plus3 Cogo - and now Trimble has stopped supporting it. That hollow feeling I had when I received that letter stating that Plus3 had been sold has come to fruition. I still think Terramodel is a great package, but as time marches on, it will be more and more awkward when exchanging files with architects and engineers using AutoCAD. It is time to learn a new package, something I do not look forward to.
I read how the IntelliCAD version of Carlson is not up to the larger AutoCAD packages, but it is looking good at the price. Any real shortcomings with the IntelliCAD version for a 1 man shop supporting design firms?
Are there any here on BeerLeg who have made the transition from Terramodel to Carlson? If so, please share your experience.
Thanks in advance.

In my office two people transitioned to Carlson Survey from LDD and one from Terramodel. We all agree that the only real transition involved is learning what Carlson calls stuff and where they hide it. All of the survey packages are VERY similar. It's just getting used to the way Carlson "thinks", and that is much more intuitive than LDD.
Prior to making any real decision, get a copy of the Carlson training book from cadapult.com . That $80 ivestment will show you exactly what you are getting into and give you a big boost in getting started in Carlson.

:good: :good: I think Carlson makes putting out Cad drawings very easy. As a solo operator you'll probably benefit most from their robust and easy to use field to finish feature. That's why I asked a poster on another thread why they would want to invest in C3D instead of Carlson Civil.

Terramodel is being slowly transitioned into Trimble Business Center. Most of the heavy duty stuff like surfaces and contouring is already there. I don't know if all the drafting stuff is there but I think before long TBC will do most of what Terramodel does and more. TerraModel never did have all the bells and whistles of AutoCAD and Microstation when is comes to drafting.
I'm working on the biggest topo I've ever done on the ground in TBC right now. It's more powerful than Terramodel, I've just begun to realize what it can do. So far now I'm sticking to TBC and will output it to Microstation for the final drafting. I don't know anything about Carlson. Considering the future for machine control and modeling and Trimble's experience in that market and GPS I'm making the effort to learn TBC even if its transition from Terramodel has been sort of slow. What they have done is combine TGO and Terramodel and a bunch of other stuff.
