Has anyone on here used Revit before, and if so how different is it from Civil 3D? I have a project where I need to lay out the underground and all the files are in Revit. They are both made by Autodesk.?ÿ
An archetich send me his revit drawing and with Carlson CES I could only print the file.
None of my tools, snap or inquiries would work on the drawing.
He had distorted the boundaries of my survey to make his design fit within setback lines.
I had to hand enter the demensions around the house, patio and garage. The demensions shown for the house did not close and were out a couple feet each direction.
Had to rotate everything nearly 20?ø for it fit on the property correctly.
It was a brother in law set of house plans by someone that usually designs resort cruise ship rooms.
He may have downloaded only an image or turned off certain parts of the drawing for the download.
I spoke with him and he was very vague and unhelpful in sharing info, which was strange.
Could have been payback between in laws.
Should be able to export them from Revit into a .rcs or .rcp file which goes straight into C3D
From the get go everyone needs to know that REVIT does not play well with other Autodesk products.
Time flies when you are having fun, I think it was the second year that REVIT was out. We sent an AutoCAD file of a commerical building site plan to an architect. The building was being converted into a bakery. The architect had been using REVIT since it came out.
It was very tight to get the kitchen equipment into the space. When the custom built stainless steel equipment was installed it was 3" to wide. At which time the 55 Gal. drum of EPA matter hit the fan. We producted a copy of our email to the architect with our AutoCAD file showing the correct dimension. REVIT when it imported our file made the building 3" wider.
A Harris said, "He had distorted the boundaries of my survey to make his design fit within setback lines." I have this happening all the time but maybe in this case he had help from REVIT.

Earlier this week I carried out a check survey on a swimming pool I will eventually have to certify for competition use. The contractor was saying that they have endless trouble with REVIT information from the architect. It seems that REVIT will sometimes set up dimensions from a "non point" and if you don't realise that then everything is offset (height and plan).
They now check all strings of dimensions back to a known position to make sure no errors occur. Problems start when the REVIT dimensions don't include any reference distance to any existing known points. When I was there they were measuring by hand the distance between two inset areas in the wall to try and work out how the tiling was to fit around access steps.
