I'm about to rub my head with buttermilk, and but my head against the wall! (now, that's an old southern expression!)
In the layer command, I cannot seem to change any of the line types, for any layers. If they were dashed, then they won't change. If they are continuous, then they won't change. I can actually load any line type, and select it, but it won't take effect....
These little excursions, into FIGGERIN it out, and good for me... I do really try to figure it out.... but this one has me stumped. I am sure there is a "lock" somewhere.
Alot of good is coming out of this....
I'm finally setting up my automated description writer better to go more automation.
And, 64 bits is good.
But, I fear, 128 bits is coming... windows 18 or so. And, I fear that we will be required to draw our plats on clouds.... 🙂 just kidding!
Thanks all for your help.
This is a re-installation of Carlson 2009, with embedded acad.

View / LayerLinetypeControl will open a dialog box that lists each layer
There is a column for Linetype on the right for each layer,
click on a linetype and another dialog box will open with all the linetypes loaded in the drawing,
pick the linetype you want for that layer
If you want to be able to change the linetype for some features on some layers, pick continuous on those layers and you can change linetypes at will with Edit / Change Properties / Linetype
I remember when I loaded Carlson and there were 250 plus layers on the start drawing
Took that and edited out and came up with layers 0 thru 7 for my working layers and let the computer default to the layers created when coord files are loaded and a few more when lines are annotated.
That puts about 12 layers to work with in my drawings and I change linetypes at will in a layer called FINAL where my actual drawing exists for plot
When the lines all look like they have gone back to continuous, type in REGEN and your changes should appear, then saveas.
B-)
I found it, I think.... In the Layer Properties Manager, There is a light bulb, Then to the right of that, is a icon that looks like a padlock. I Toggled that. Now I can change the linetypes.
It's persnickity!

Yes, that would be the layer lock, when it's locked you can't change any entity on that layer. Helpful to lock control points in a cad file so they don't get moved by some wayward cad operator.
Another thing, I was picking several items, and it only used the last item, I picked. I had to change the pick add system variable.
It's a toggle. It now accumulates stuff you pick.
Durned. I am glad I don't have to do this often.

Setting up your template drawing can span a few seasons or years to get it tweaked to your liking.
I am having to go back and cut out most of the linetypes that were loaded when ask my youngest son to create a Headright linetype.
He added the entire library of linetypes into the template drawing and that makes scrolling thru them and trying to remember their actual file name seem an endless task.
My drawings usually contain a max of 12 different linetypes.
As these computers, and their software mature, and we get more and more settings, we are going to need a way to SAVE all the settings, we like, and transfer them to others... just to save set up time.
One file, with all the system variables.

Template is definitely the way to go. dwt or a standard dwg with everything that you want.
