I've been looking for a way to mask the drawing behind dimension text since AutoCAD came out with the text mask option for mtext.?ÿ I finally found it.?ÿ

In AutoCAD under the text tab in the dimension style set the fill color to "background", now your dimensions will have a mask behind the text.?ÿ Intellicad also has this functionality (version 8).?ÿ In Intellicad it is also found under the text tab in the dimension style but the field is called Text Background and you'll need to set it to "Color of drawing".

In TBC there is a "white out" option.

I still find the old WIPEOUTs in some old drawings and I shudder.?ÿ Draw order issues and it used to go to PDF in the most wonky way possible: white plotted black.
Mask can be found under properties too.

Now for the AutoCAD Map hack of the day.?ÿ MPOLYGON with colors that plot with no color.?ÿ I assign 17 to be the background color and I pop a big old MPOLYGON behind details and random blocks of text (like a list of MLEADERS).?ÿ It makes the list pop a little better without giving up the MLEADER functionality.

Sometimes I go crazy and put the details into a random block with the background MPOLYGON.?ÿ

I use MPOLYGONS constantly for rendering and area calcs.

Have fun with CAD.?ÿ Signed, Thadd

I still use wipeouts for text when needed.?ÿ Draworder isn't much of an issue for me, I can quickly fix it on a per-layer basis if I need to.?ÿ And I don't seem to have any trouble with PDF plots, though I've heard of that with some PDF renderers.
