Is there a way to select a range of points for deletion in Magnet Field on the FC-5000, for instance, 1-500? Under the Edit Points menu, the only options I've got besides selecting one point at a time are Select All, Select All Below, or Select Multiple (which requires me to select each point individually, which, with my fat fingers, usually doesn't go well). I've tried importing revised points and selecting overwrite all, but most of the time it removes the notes/codes for the points upon import and gives me an import error message.

I'm sure that I'm probably missing something easy, but it's driving me crazy and taking much longer than it should.

Thanks for any insight.

I am looking forward to seeing other responses here.

I find the required editing options clumsy or non-existant.

I do my editing on the txt file after exporting .

For example, my survey software is looking for a fixed number of digits in each field for file conversion and I often have to edit heights for instance, when the heights are either side of say,10 or 100.

I never found a way back when I used it. I could see the .CSV or .TXT export and then deleting the required points being an option since that and a .rw5 was his I did all my downloads when I was using this software.?ÿ

To select (delete) a range of points in Magnet Field use the "sort by" to align the points for your desired range. Select 1st point in the range, hold down the "shift" key, and select the last point in the range. For most users of Windows, this is an intuitive selection method used for years with Excel, File Explorer etc.

I'm not sure about exporting a fixed-width data set. Can set the precision, but not the width.

I have looked at the 'sort by' option and found it difficult in the field with the tablet.

Back in the office on a pc, or a mouse hooked up to the tablet, no worries.

Unfortunately, the FC-5000 doesn't have a 'shift' key. I looked into changing the assignment of one of the function keys to 'shift', but not seeing that as an option. I also looked into using 'find', which gives me the option to find by range, but it only highlights the first point in the range.

I'll keep searching. Seems like such a basic option, especially when other functions in the program give one the ability to select by range.

Thanks for your input.

On FC5000/6000 select the 1st point list. Then click on the virtual keyboard in the system tray to pop up the keyboard. Select SHIFT button from the virtual keyboard. Now click on the last point in your list.

This thing is getting (has been) annoying. Which virtual keyboard is that? I tried this with the 'touch keyboard' (found by pressing taskbar then 'show touchpad keyboard button'), but it's still not working for me. Maybe I'm missing a setting somewhere.

Thanks again.

I used the default Windows 10 virtual keyboard from task menu.

?ÿYou can plug in any USB keyboard if needed.

Maybe this mini Bluetooth keyboard will work for you.

This thread is about deleting points. However, you do realize that you can export a range of points by selecting filter and type 1-500 at the prompt.

@leegreen Yes, I export by range all of the time. Most of my work is construction, so I'm constantly revising or adding points to our project files as the engineers make their changes (far too many of those these days, almost seems like we're doing design/build). If the overwrite during import was dependable (again, maybe I've got a bad setting), we wouldn't be having this conversation. I've got to have the correct codes on the points so that they can be marked correctly in the field.

I wasn't aware of that way of deleting a range but I'm pretty sure I exported point ranges as well as importing when I used magnet. I was frequently missing control points with my previous boss so I was constantly having to find points in previous jobs and import them into the job I was working in. I remember this being a strong point of magnet.?ÿ
