Viva was considerably easier to pick up and use than SmartWorks.  Captivate is even easier.  While the Captivate and Viva both use the same database format, Captivate is/was a new product.  I wish they would have done a better job at porting some things over but those mostly involve user definable keys.

That really seems like user error.  Even with SmartWorks you had to confirm you really wanted to delete a setup point.  In the days prior to SmartWorks, I deleted the raw file for an entire days worth of data collection of my TPS1100 series instrument.  It was late after a long day and I just powered through the warnings without paying attention.  Leson learned.

I will agree that there are some things that the Swiss are a little bullheaded about.  One is definitely renaming points once they have been used in a setup.  The other is changing antenna heights for GNSS shots after the fact.

Ps, the data is not actually deleted out of the database and can be recovered in Infinity.

I'm 98% set on buying one just to experiment with. From what I've read they will work with TPS 1100/1200? I'm eyeing one up on Ebay right now but I'm definitely interested in yours. The only hitch might be the fact that I'm just buying one to try out. I know that the CS15's have been around for a while, so an older model (like the one on Ebay) might be a lot less valuable than yours?

Of course it was user error, since I was used to all other brands of DC software where I'd learned that no matter what you do to the coordinate file, the raw file records and retains everything, so your angles, distances, notes, etc, are all there, and can be edited later.

This just seemed completely stupid, that even with warnings, I couldn't imagine that the raw data records would be deleted.  I mean, why would they make that happen in their software, what's the point?

We certainly didn't have any Leica office software back then, just LDD or Carslon, so that raw was probably lost for good, as far as we were concerned.
