Has anyone found a good way to get the survey seal into Trimble Business Center. We have several simple jobs that we have really no need to export to another cad software. How do we get my LS seal and signature digitally in. I think in civil3d they scan or make a block or something. Out of my knowledge realm. But i have a small job i am wrapping up and was hoping i could bypass exporting everything to cad and just finish it up in TBC. But we want to make sure we protect the LS. It will be exported to a pdf.?ÿ
What are your deliverables? Raw data? TBC reports?
For any PDF I'd simply add a digital stamp & signature that has been worked up in CAD or scanned in (I like the former, it looks better), flatten the document so it cannot be modified, and finally add an encrypted electronic signature.
I have a CAD drawing block of my stamp, that will go into TBC just fine like any other DWG, but I find it's often easier to add it in Bluebeam or Adobe after PDF creation.
In the past I've had to deliver big packages of raw data, reports & narratives, research documents, CAD drawings, GIS files, etc. all in a standardized format (multiple folders). For those, I wouldn't necessarily stamp & sign every single PDF. There just needs to be a cover sheet explaining the content, date, etc., what exactly the LS is certifying to, as well as a note that the deliverer is not responsible for consequences of alteration of any of the data after [insert date].
The process will be highly State specific. Some States still require wet seals, others certificate backed signatures, and some accepting scans and facsimiles.
I don't allow cadd or scanned images of my seal, with the exception of working copies of certified products.
I see the original poster OleManRiver is in Virginia. The Virginia law allows an electronic seal, signature, and date provided "It is verifiable". From a practical point of view, that means there has to be a public key infrastructure digital signature. A conservative reading is that in an electronic document, either you use a PKI digital signature, or you don't provide any signature or seal.
I'm not a land surveyor, and as engineer I haven't had any occasion to use an electronic signature. But before I retired I was responsible for a project at IBM where some of the same algorithms used in PKI digital signatures were used to assure the integrity of design kits sent to integrated circuit customers.
@rover83 thank you. So they have his going into cad so the same should work in tbc. That’s good. Blue-beam we use also. So not much difference.
