Dead battery light on Carlson Explorer is on. I tested the battery on a tester and it seems OK. May be the charger that plugs into wall receptable. Can I check the charger output, if any exists, with the same battery charger? What do I set on the dial on the tester? Possible settings on dial are: AAA, AA, 6v, etc.

Does the small black box that plugs into the wall have a voltage listed on it? I am not familiar with this charger.

If it does, you can take your multimeter and check the voltage coming out of the plug. I have done this over the years for various chargers, not necessarily just for survey related chargers.

How old is your battery? I have had batteries that just die all of a sudden. When they go, sometimes, they go all at once. That is what the battery in my old Ranger did one time.

Good luck.

The black box that plugs into the wall states the output as 12VDC 1.2amp. I get zero when I check the output with the battery tester, however the charger is warm, but warm may not mean anything in this case.
Still checking things.

Believe a multimeter was the term used, a battery tester is no substitute for a good multimeter in the hands of someone who knows how to use it. What are your charging habits, is there a possibility for a memory issue?

Batteries are NiMH, not ni-cad. Thought they did not develope memory.
