It is surely a shame that Mr. Mockett was assassinated and I express my condolences to his family. A marine surveyor, however is not the same type of surveyor as most of us on this forum.
From Wikipedia:
A Marine Surveyor is a person who conducts inspections, surveys or examinations of marine vessels to assess, monitor and report on their condition and the products on them. Marine Surveyors also inspect equipment intended for new or existing vessels to ensure compliance with various standards or specifications. Marine surveys typically include the structure, machinery and equipment (navigational, safety, radio, etc.) and general condition of a vessel. It also includes judging materials on board and their condition.
Very sad indeed. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones.

Those were my thoughts. England has different connotations for surveyors than Americans. Surveyors in England are Building Inspectors here in the States. You know why that is? There is very little land ownership in England. The English own the buildings but not the land. Kinda like one large Mobile Home Park. No land ownership, No boundary disputes, no land surveyors.
My co-worker talked to a Survey crew in London. They told him they only do topo and construction, almost never boundary.
We have marine surveyors here. I saw an office one time which had a shingle for a marine surveyor. So I looked it up.
