I was sad to hear the news earlier this week that Jim Kimberling, PLS, PE of Vale, Oregon had died. I only met him about 6 years ago and saw him about once a year, but he left a lasting impression on me as not only a great guy but a very wise, professional, and skilled surveyor. One of those quiet non-assuming guys who, when they opine on something you make sure to listen because you’re going to learn something.
I had heard he retired early last year due to poor health, but I didn’t realize he was so ill.
My condolences go out to his family and friends. I wish I’d got to spend more time with him too.
Mike, I hadn't heard that, was actually over in Malheur County last week working. I had recently learned that Jim had retired due to health reasons, but had no clue...
Looks like he was only 61, one is only given a few short years here on this earth, some more, some less...
Jim and I worked together extensively on a large ORMAP project in 2004-2005 when I had a contract to position a ton of corners all over the County, a good guy and a good surveyor, I will certainly miss him and offer my condolences to his wife and family.
