A True American War Hero.
Many thought he should have been president.
Paul in PA
Terrible loss!!!!
I've read his auto-biography. He had a tough child hood for sure.
He had no aspirations for presidency
I was one that thought he would make a good president.
According to his own bio, he absolutely hated politics.
His dislike of politics probably went a long way in making him a fine general.
But, look who got all the accolades for Desert Shield/Storm.
"The Luckiest Man in Iraq..............."
If one can have a "favorite moment" in a war, this might be a candidate:
Stormin Norman was a true leader.
That ability to lead is what our Presidency needs much more than politics.
He would have made a difference in Washington and to the world in that office.
"The Bear" was an awesome officer. I got to meet him during a training exercise in Germany. Very intense, VERY intelligent. He was one of those people that simply radiated strength and intelligence.
I too wish he had run for President. He would have been a very good one.
If you will look back in history, you will find that a vast majority of the really great military generals abhored politics. They had to deal with it daily and watch it hinder their efforts. Only a very few of the great ones could handle politics and those that came with it. Many who entered the upper levels of politics failed miserably. Eisenhower is probably the last general that handled the office of President with any positive effect.
We've lost a good man.
On the survey side of this sad news, I did get to meet him when I did his Mortgaqe Survey in Florida.....
It has been my observation that those who are truly the BEST qualified, most intelligent genuine leaders are the ones who are smart enough - to know enough - to stay out of politics......therefore, we get what's left.
Gen. Schwarzkoph was a great warrior; he should have been allowed to finish the job, what a difference it would have made?
