No, I did not know this. I used a very sophisticated analytical technique to unravel the mystery (I zoomed in on the latitude and longitude at the bottom of your photo, where I found the picture and description in my post above).
After I figured it out I did recall noticing that there was no shifting or rotating as I zoomed in.

It's the center of Google Earth's universe.
