Gotta say....Thanks to my new employer for pulling out all the stops to celebrate 10 years and employee appreciation...

AHHH, HELL NO!
I ain't gonna socialize outdoors when I can socialize indoors with seven less layers of clothes on.?ÿ The frozen tundra of Michigan took such frivolous thinking out of my head.?ÿ Meanwhile, the natives had most of a city block that was used for soccer or general romping around in the few Summer months.?ÿ It had a berm around it that they would fill with water when the frigid times arrived to turn it into a natural ice skating rink.?ÿ We would drive by the foolish frolickers succumbing to frostbite while enjoying the comfort of our nice warm car heater.
Your mileage may vary.
You've gotten soft....
???? ?????ÿ
that was the pre-meeting fire pit, now bathed in sunlight.
not cold not frigid, but just right.

When I was first watching the ice rink people, I was 22 years old and tough.?ÿ It's just not something I enjoy.?ÿ There was a small ski resort within 20 miles.?ÿ Never even went to look at what they had to offer.
understood.
I'm still descending slowly into the middle age downshift we all can't escape, fighting less along the way..
I'm definitely not free soloing ice and rock anymore and enjoying not struggling to stay alive while enjoying the crisp dry winter air on my skin, and looking forward to dinner in a warm place at the end of a day.
free soloing ice

having lived a few winters in the mountains a few winters, it can be 15?ø and sunny, you??ll be out there in shirt sleeves. 15?ø dry cold is warmer than 50?ø valley foggy day cold.

@dougie?ÿ
nothing that dramatic but I did almost go through the front curtain of a frozen waterfall with water flowing behind it...
Popped a dinner plate size chunk or rotten ice and then proceeded to see into where I was going to end up if I didnt keep moving.... definitely changed my situational awareness while on live ice...
?ÿ
it almost looks photo shopped, but either way, that probably was fatal...not fun...
My office today. I gave the big 1921 Monroe Model K a little bit of sewing machine oil and it??s working much better.
Hope to get the little Model LA5-160 (mid-1930s) working. Motor runs. It works manually, gives accurate answers but the automatic function would be more fun.
but either way, that probably was fatal...not fun...
A fall like that will definitely leave a mark...
I saw a buddy pull 3 pieces and hit the deck; pissed blood for a week...
Can't say I've ever experienced anything close to being that dramatic; I just liked getting up on top cool sh!t...
@dougie?ÿ
chk.
best friend died of anoxic insult to brain stem in Squamish 21 years ago when pieces zippered.
another guy that I climbed around(more like watched in awe of) was crushed in Washington spring ice climbing getting recertification for AMA guiding.?ÿ it's not normal but it's fun exciting problem solving and sometimes just not your day.
either way, the High mountain ranch retreat west of RMNP was a great respite for the daily grind for all of us.
