So I have come to the conclusion that a M274 Military Mule would be the best "4 wheeler" for surveying work and it is a damned shame it is not made anymore.

I saw that. I would love to have one but the fact that it hasn't been manufactured for decades would make any repairs difficult, otherwise I would be on it like a duck on a June Bug.
I've driven them on base before and they are not fast but very durable. Much more utilitarian and tough. We had one with our squadron and it was well used.

I said 4 wheeler. Most 4 wheelers it seems lack utility. Oh I know you can get a UTV which is better but still lacking in that they have loads of plastic pieces and parts that just get damaged or tore off with the day to day wear and tear.
And I despise a stinking horse, mule or donkey.?ÿ
Yes, you'll need at least 4 wheels if you are going to be moving monuments.
I drove the Mule all over Fort Campbell and North Africa. One of my duties was to keep it running well. They are exceedingly simple. If you avoid trashing hard parts in the transmission or the core of the motor you'll be fine.
I can tell you it is possible to vault a rider several yards if you dump the clutch at high rpms. I removed the paint from the back end more than once going full vertical pulling wheelies. Probably the wrong tool for some crews without supervision...
