I just wanted to thank the muskrats for all the work he refers to us surveyors...
Not Humor.....A nice explanation of reality
Very simple and understandable description of why flowing water creates curving streams. I liked it.
And, I agree with the thought that the muskrat helps surveyors find more work.
That was an interesting clip. Lots of land critters do have their methods of impacting water. Beavers can wreak havoc and destroy large areas of timber, but the beavers are happy. So I guess that's a wash.
I had a problem with ground hogs who liked to live in my river bank. Grand River in Grand Rapids. Big river, house 30 ft from bank. Said bank was anywhere from 6 ft to minus 5 ft, depending on flood stage.
Mr & Mrs Groundhog loved the dry times and decided it was their home, including all the horizontal bedding areas so they could propagate amongst them self for generations to come. Opps, they forgot about my .22 and the fact that I like my banks the way they were.
Did you know ground hogs don't swim well unless they are belly side up? Felt bad about that, but tried to cook one once and I wouldn't really recommend it. Any recipe's out there?

I knew a couple people when I lived in western NC mountains that ate them. I'm only speculating but I would imagine they just made stew meat out of them. It ain't like you're going to get any flank steak or rib-eye roll out of one. 🙂
No thanks, I'll stick to my cows and pigs.
A Little "Muskrat Love"
I did not realize this was nominated one of the 10 worst songs of the '70s by Rolling Stone Magazine.
