So what exactly does that "A" stand for?

if you are speaking of the "A" in "A & M", it stands for Agricultural. "A & M" stands for "Agricultural & Mechanical" to the best of my recollection.

Frank,
I think Paul's point was, why is an Agricultural school spending $300,000 on grass, shouldn't they grow it themselves.
Interesting article. Spending a half billion on a stadium renovation, why not pop a few more peso's for a roof if it rains so much.
But agree with the ironic twist that they go out of state to by grass for an agriculture college. Don't they have hybrids they can grow in a greenhouse? Maybe stuff that fare's a bit better in soaked conditions than currently exists on some farm? How about if the players have to play bare footed to "save the sod" - tree huggers would love that approach.
Wait a minute, didn't A & M defect to the SEC? Is NC in the SEC? Didn't look, but now it's getting political so I won't go there.
Grass From North Carolina?
If you're going to bring in trailer loads of grass I would've thought CU at Boulder might have been a better choice for a source...

Scott,
i know. i just wanted to give a straight faced answer to see what would happen.
i have to agree w/ the basic discussion of "why?". i believe that A & M has come up w/ some grasses for ag uses. you would think that they could come up w/ something sturdy for the team to trample.

They may have something they did invent astro-tuff, and the maroon carrot. I am sure this is due to time, not having enough time to grow the grass, or just having so much money they don't need to grow the grass, or maybe a former student owns the company or invent the grass.
Maybe in the next decade every team will be playing on TAMU Field Grass
