So I’m enjoying the Sunday paper and this homely little guy comes to the door.
“Hi” he says, “I’m from the ’Organization to Protect Ugly People.’ We’re dedicated to eliminating the stereotype of ugly people as ’smart’ or ’nice’.”
“O.K.” I say, “I’ll make a donation.”
“Thanks” he says, “but this is a membership drive.”
🙁

I have been taught to loathe vanity.
By whom , Jack Standard?
> I have been taught to loathe vanity.
And yet....here you are.
Nearly Normal was always a "Hipper than thou" type of being, as well.
Don
..."not only am I a member, but I am the President of the club"...
Thanks, Tim, for an appropriate response to a danged joke!
One of the reasons I respect you:-)
Don
Here is how I was taught to loathe vanity:
I knelt in the confessional and said, "Bless me, Father, for I have sinned."
"What is it, child?"
"Father, I have committed the sin of vanity. Twice a day I gaze at myself in the mirror and tell myself how handsome I am."
The priest turned, took a good look at me, and said, "My son, I have good news. That isn't a sin... it's simply a mistake."
I felt like a fish swimming upstream to spawn and planting my face directly into a concrete wall......dam!
Bless you, Jack Standard.
Go, and sin no more.
Really.
Although your own definition of sin will be considered.
We had a lovely visitor to this board recently; Aletheia Kallos, and I will never tire of quoting her (the passage I particularly love wasn't actually posted here)
and, interestingly, a poster that I like a lot (Farsites, the McCoy) seems to have gotten into some kind of adversarial relationship with her.
I may be wrong, I'll have to go back and review the back and forth between them.
Anyway,
What she said, as many others have said since time (the concept) began, was: "We are the creators of our own reality."
Hard too argue with that, no?
And so, I become what I railed against: the "hipper than thou" jerkface that I pretend to despise.
I seem also to have adopted the poetic structure of Ms Kallos' posts.
Oh what
An ass
I am
