tell the kids to bring a rain slicker
A local farm family uses old school buses for watermelon haulers. The have several to haul the melons from the field to the warehouse and then loaded into cardboard pallets and shipped out.
I almost got my dad to buy an old school bus when I was about 16 because it was cheap. Remove most of the body and the seats and I could have had a very inexpensive hay hauling truck. Not sure if the structural members from the floor to the frame were up to the same standards as a typical farm truck, but I assumed that they were adequate. Almost was as close as I got, though.
I see lots of school buses converted to farm use, so I think you coulda hauled hay with one. I seen one once that someone welded a fifth wheel one and used it to tote trailers around a yard with, so I guess they are at least sorta sturdy
Sweet!

I didn't know School Buses had been invented when you were 16! 😉
Horses pulled them after we laid off the wooly mammoths.
