It has been reported that emails have been surrendered in which ex Penn State President Graham Spanier discussed not reporting the incident witnessed by Mike McQueary to the authorities. Somehow the discussion included Paterno or references to Paterno, but Paterno the dynasaur did not use email.
Some more info now but still a lot more facts to come later.
A discussion to wait until an investigation is complete is one thing, but you cannot wait for 11 years.

Wendell, This In No Way Is ''Sports''
Since you don't have a shameful category, please return it to "General/Non Surveying". As best I can determine there is "general" disgust on this board regarding this whole matter.
To include this in "Sports" is to make light of the issue or imply that this was a suitable sporting event.
I am an admitted/commited Paterno fan, but will report what I can, good or bad, as the news comes.
As things go I am still drinking my morning tea out of a Penn State mug.

A Little More Info From A Different Source
With this info it appears that Penn State was following the Catholic Church Pattern.
Offering to get the person help is appropriate as a step in an employer/employee relationship, but it is my understanding Sandusky was not an employee at the time. They may be confusing the 1998 issue with the 2001 issue. Since the issue had been in front of PSU years prior, 2001 was past the time to deal with the matter genteely or gently.

Offering help to an alcoholic or a drug addict is appropriate, but for suspected child molesters you call the police, immediately.
