> A group of people associating themselves with opencarry.org made it a habit of open carrying military style rifles as well as handguns down busy metro streets. You can imagine how that turns out.
These are the types of people I worry about. I have a concealed carry permit myself, but I can't think of any time when I would want to carry openly.

> This directly caused state laws to be passed prohibiting all forms of open carry in public for hand guns AS WELL as rifles. Everything has to be transported in locked containers, with ammo stored in a separate location. Carrying your rifle into the gunsmith shop in the typical padded gun case is illegal.

That's going way too far, in my opinion. A little common sense here would have gone a long way.
I always thought of the carry laws to be concerning areas within city limits. In rural areas, open carry has always been allowed in my state as far as I know.
I agree 100%
You are a reasonable man, CB. I can see that.
I grew up in the U.P. and we all "open carried" during hunting season.
Other than that, if you got to show everybody you got a gun...I'm sorry, you probably really don't.

Open carry is allowed in Kentucky. I very rarely see it occurring in the area I live. The few times I see someone carrying openly, I know them and know they have a CCDW permit as well.
Personally, I see open carry as a non-issue. I would be willing to wager there are a number of people carrying concealed who are not legally allowed to do so. If you are openly carrying, you really better be sure you are allowed to legally posses the gun. Just a guess, but I would wager those who openly carry are not likely to be restricted from owning a gun.
