She had her husband's body, in a casket, in a pickup, with ice around it, as she went around, visiting his old friends, so they could say goodbye...
Usually, the mourners all get together around the body, at the funeral... but in AK, they did the reverse... take the body to the people...

Too funny. And, apparently she "Did not break any laws"....

Seems thoughtful of her to come to them, instead of trying to get all his friends off work and arranged in one place at one time.

Alaskans generally do as they see fit. Death is just as much a part of life as being born, no getting around it. I won't post any pictures here of my neighbor's funeral. He wanted to be buried sitting upright on his tractor so, before he passed he asked another neighbor to construct him a coffin that would accommodate him sitting on his tractor seat in the upright position. The morticians accommodated his wishes and he was embalmed in the desired position and placed inside the custom casket and carefully lowered into a 14' hole with an excavator on his property as local ordinance doesn't prohibit burial on one's own property but does require 6' of cover. No 'rolling' wake though.

These tales remind me of Robert Service and his Alaskan stories, Ballad of Blasphemous Bill and Cremation of Sam McGee.
