Just got home for lunch and turned the news on. It's horrible.

My prayers for the families.

It really is just mind boggling.

Newtown, CT
Sandy Hook Elem. School

I have the TV on listening in the background while working and reading up on posts and heard the name of the school and I just saw the "Sandy Hook Datum" post. Needless it got my attention.

You know, the Bible tells us that vengeance belongs to the Lord.

I've read it several times over...and while vengeance may indeed belong to Him...it doesn't say we can't stand on the sidewalk and cheer when it happens.

Oh my, did I just post something religious? I guess I deserve whatever happens...:-$

How Can You Explain It To The Children?

We are all linked to it one way or another.

My wife's sister's second husband's daughter's first husband is remarried and living in Newton. Their young daughter is in an afternoon kindergarten class at that school.

What comes first then, tears of thankfullness for your own or tears of grief for the others?

How much deeper is the pain of the parents with a closets full of wrapped Christmas presents?

I do know I will hold my grandchildren much tighter.

"My wife's sister's second husband's daughter's first husband is remarried and living in Newton. Their young daughter is in an afternoon kindergarten class at that school."

I thought I was the only person alive who spit out connections like that. Being the local historian and a genealogy fanatic, I come up with sentences similar to that fairly regularly describing connections between various local people.

Today, it was at an elementary school. Next week it may be at any other gathering point. Today it was guns. Next month may be some sort of Sarran-like gas or putting drugs in salt and sugar bottles in a diner. Addled minds will find a way to deliver mayhem against random masses. They always have. They always will.

Good Post LPL,

This is a tragic event of enormous proportions which should effect everyone at this time of the year.
I don't know what you say to the children. My wife who is a mental health counselor for kids is on the 'trauma task force' for public schools here to deal with situations like this. She deals with situations every year of death of students from Pre-K through HS.
I don't know how they do it but I know that her colleagues are a close knit group to deal with the situations and they remain a close knit group afterward.
And of course they are extremely underpaid and overworked.

I would think tht one would grieve and then thankful that they were blessed. I think society needs a large dose of compassion to keep it sane. I always have thought that...

Another Link To The Tragic Elementary School in Connecticut

I got a business call yesterday morning from a client who lives in Newtown before heading out to survey his family farm. I then heard the developing story on the radio knowing his wife is a teacher. He called again this morning and said his wife works in a different school district. His son was in high school with the older brother of the shooter. As the story unfolds certain detailed assumptions will change.

Closer to home my first grade grandaughter heard my daughter on the phone and asked questions. My daughter's profession is to deal with troubled youth, but this response was much harder for her.

In addition emails have come in from my wife's church's regional office. They have a church in Newtown and are disseminating to their churches a response plan created after the Norway shooting tragedy. Sometimes faith is all we have.

My daughter is also a Sunday School teacher and responsible for the creation of their Safe Church Plan.

This one has been harder than any other tragedy.
